In Indiana, we pride ourselves on our ability and capacity to make things. The state boasts the highest concentration of manufacturing jobs in the country, with one in five Hoosiers going to work at a manufacturing operation each day. Many of those jobs have been created by Indiana’s global automakers Toyota, Honda, and Subaru, which employ 116,750 hardworking Hoosiers and just last year manufactured more than 996,000 vehicles.
Thank you for supporting the growth of the global automotive industry and for your work raising awareness of these companies’ nationwide impact through the Here for America initiative. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with these important partners to grow the state’s economy, as Toyota, Honda, and Subaru continue to show their commitment to the state through increased investment and new jobs for Hoosiers.
Just this year, Toyota announced a planned $600 million expansion of its Princeton operations, creating up to 400 jobs over the next five years. Honda, which began producing vehicles at its Greensburg facility in 2008, recently invested more than $52 million and created approximately 100 jobs when it brought new production of the CR-V to Indiana. Finally, over the last four years, Subaru invested over $1.3 billion in its Lafayette plant while creating more than 2,000 new jobs.
These investments provide Hoosiers with quality jobs and are supporting community growth across our state. I could not be more proud to serve as a governor of a state that has such outstanding partners who are willing to invest in our people and our economy.
Thank you again for your support of the global automotive industry, which is an important economic driver for Indiana.
